The first meeting of a Government action group aimed at countering the impact of the closure of RAF Mildenhall has taken place.
Matthew Hancock, MP for Mildenhall and minister for business, innovation and skills, chaired the inaugural Mildenhall, Alconbury and Molesworth (MAM) working group on Friday.
Among those in attendance at the meeting was Cllr James Waters, leader of Forest Heath District Council.
“It was a very positive first meeting. While none of us wanted to see the RAF Mildenhall base close, there is a firm commitment to work together, to tackle any impact that the closure may have on jobs and our local economy to ensure that Mildenhall emerges stronger from this,” said Cllr Waters.
“Clearly there is lots of detailed work still to be done, but we have a commitment that this will be driven locally. I look forward to progressing this to the next meeting.”
In addition the inaugural MAM working group meeting, Forest Heath announced a series of dates for meetings it will hold with sectors of the community in the coming weeks.
The first is on February 26 and will assess the impact the air base closure has on housing in the area.
