Plans have been submitted for 12 affordable homes on the site of the White Hart pub in Mildenhall High Street,

Havebury Housing Partnership wants to create two two bedroom houses, two one bedroom houses, two two bedroom flats and six one bedroom flats.

The design and access statement to Forest Heath District Council states that there is high demand for affordable homes with 302 people on the housing needs register wanting to live in the town. Of these 172 are looking for one bedroom accommodation.

The pub, which is currently empty, is in the town’s conservation area and the plan aims to retain the building with minor alterations where needed.

The pub will be divided into individual dwellings by separating what was No 19 into its former plot and creating a communal entrance from the existing pub entrance to access four flats and a further two story dwelling.

Outbuildings will convert to a one bedroom dwelling, parking area and new flat with new building on the site creating a further one bedroom house and three further flats.

A housing need statement from the district council says it fully supports the conversion of the pub creating more affordable housing and making the best use of an empty building in the town centre.
