TAILWHIPS, ollies and grinds took centre stage at George Lambton Skatepark as it played host to its first official skate jam.
The event, put on by Forest Heath Council and entertainment group Tribe, saw more than 40 youngsters from Newmarket and its surrounding villages turn up for the trick-fuelled session.
Nicola King, youth development officer at Forest Heath, said: "This is the first time many who use the skatepark have all been there at once. It gave them the opportunity to see how talented they all are and the chance for them to make new friends."
On the day, skaters and bikers had the chance to take part in trick and jump competitions and watched a series of professional displays.
It is hoped that Friday's jam will kick-start the programme to improve BMX and skating facilities across the town.
Miss King added: "We now want to build a case and try to raise the profile of BMX biking facilities in Newmarket as, increasingly, more and more young people want to take it up.
"With it being an alternative sport it does not receive as much support as your traditional games."
Plans are being drawn up to hold another jam in the October half-term holiday.
