A FATHER and son team from Newmarket, who took on the challenge of cycling across Vietnam, have raised more than £2,000 for charity.
Les and Alan Trim, of Freshfields, completed a 1,200-mile trip around the South East Asian country, raising money for Bury St Edmunds-based St Nicholas' Hospice.
After encountering all kinds of difficult weather conditions, the duo completed their challenge within the one-month period they had set themselves.
Les said: "It went really well but we did have problems, mainly with the weather. When we started out it was so hot that we had blisters on our hands, then as we moved north we hit the monsoon season where we were cycling in water up to our knees."
For 62 year old Les, meeting the people of Vietnam was one of the highlights of the trip, along with the stunning views.
"The people out there are fantastic. If we had a puncture you could guarantee that someone would help you out. I even fell off my bike at one point and there was a lady who brought me a bottle of antiseptic."
Anyone who still has sponsor forms for the pair or would like to donate any money to their collection, contact Les on 01638 660797 or 0775 4998804.
