TROPHIES were awarded to the winners of this year's Newmarket in Bloom competition during a special presentation evening.
A number of green-fingered residents, who came top in the annual competition, packed Newmarket's Roman Catholic Church hall, where they were presented with their awards by trainer Clive Brittain and town mayor Cllr Chris Turner.

This year's Newmarket In Bloom attracted around 20 entries in nine categories.

Cash prizes were also awarded to residents and businesses who finished in first, second and third place in each category.

Businesses which received trophies at the presentation included Heath Court for best hotel, the National Horseracing Museum for best business, Cavendish Stables and Flint Cottage Stables for best industrial entry, New Wellington for best pub.

Residents awarded with trophies were hanging basket winner Ted Herridge, Rosemary Adams, best small front garden, Hazel Harvey, best front garden, John Moore, best new entrant and Alan Brown, best all-year-round garden.

The competition aims to recognise the achievements of the town's top gardeners.
