A NEW way of tackling chewing gum has been launched in Newmarket.
The town's Guineas shopping centre has teamed up with Newmarket Community Partnership to start a trial scheme where shoppers can stick their used gum on a special disposal sheet instead of dropping it on the floor.

GumTarget, as the disposal points are called, provides disposable paper sheets on which used gum can be stuck.

Ross McKittrick, manager of the Guineas Shopping Centre, said: "This scheme is used very successfully in towns all around the country and we hope it will be well received in Newmarket.

"Once people get used to the idea of putting their gum on the sheets, we are hopeful that this pilot scheme will result in more boards in other locations in the town and help reduce litter and continue to improve the cleanliness of the streets."

The paper is changed each day with the used sheet being disposed of in the rubbish bin.
