PUPILS and staff at a Newmarket school held their own celebration to mark the official handover of the Paralympic Games.
The youngsters from Scaltback Middle School were challenged to come to school dressed in clothes associated with as many sports as possible.

At the end of the day, a special assembly was held to commemorate the official handover from Beijing to London.

They were also set a homework task to find out information about a paralympian of their choice.

All money raised from the event was donated to pupils of St Felix Middle School to help pay for sports coaches to visit Year Five and Six children, who are currently in temporary classrooms at Laureate and Houldsworth Valley schools.

“It was great fun to celebrate the handover in a fun sporting way,” said Scaltback headteacher Phil Vigrass.

“I was amazed how much effort so many of the children put into their outfits.

“I think the most special aspect of the day was the fantastic sense of community that came through when listening to the children discussing how the money they raised could help their friends at St Felix.”
