TWO mobile classrooms will arrive at Newmarket's Laureate Primary School today to accommodate school children who had been due to start at St Felix Middle School, which was destroyed by fire four weeks ago.
Last week, the council announced that children moving up to St Felix would be staying at their primary schools until temporary accommodation was ready.

Their work would be set by St Felix staff.

But a spokeswoman from Suffolk County Council yes
terday confirmed children going into Year 5 at St Felix would now be taught in portable classrooms at the primary school in Exning Road.

She said letters had been posted to parents last week to notify them of the changes.

St Felix was due to take 59 children in this year's intake.

"We are very pleased to help St Felix at this difficult time," said Sue Hancocks, Laureate's school bursar.

In the meantime, Years 7 and 8, the oldest students at St Felix, will have lessons on the Newmarket College site while Year 6 will be taught at Houldsworth Valley Primary School.

Youngsters have had an extra week off school while the emergency plans were put in place.

They are not expected to return to the Fordham Road site until Monday, November 3.

A special tribute concert has been arranged for pupils, ex-pupils, parents and staff and will take place at Tattersalls tomorrow at 3pm.

Regeneration, the name of the concert, will celebrate the life of St Felix and is a stepping stone into the reconstruction of the school's memories.

The school's music teacher, Tracey Botwright, would like to hear from anyone who learned to play steel pans at St Felix because she is organising a last-minute rehearsal at 2pm, before the concert.

There will also be readings from ex-pupils from as far back as when the school opened more than 30 years ago.

For further information on the changes, contact Suffolk County Council on 08456 031842 or visit www.suffolk.gov.uk
