CONCERNED Red Lodge residents have called for dozens of unsightly and dangerous potholes at the entrance to their road to be repaired.
People living in Heath Farm Road said the stretch of track leading to their street, which they share with Turnpike Lane, resembled a war zone with large and deep potholes and craters.

An unadopted road and public right of way, it is owned by brewe
ry Greene King and is regularly used by lorries going to the transport depot next to the site, which firm Derek Cooper rents to companies Turners and David Haird.

Resident Gill Byatt said that although Cooper's and Turners sometimes scrapped the surface of the road to level it out the holes returned and became larger when it rained.

"We all have to try and dodge the craters full of sharp rocks and muddy water each journey we take over this part of the road," she said.

"Our cars, vans and motorbikes are getting damaged, we have to try and dodge the holes which is virtually impossible and our children have to walk through a muddy swamp to reach their school bus – it's a disgrace."

Sue Evans, who runs a pet grooming service down Heath Farm Road, said customers had complained and it could affect her business. "We are all sick of it," she said.

Fellow householder Alan Underwood said: "It's totally disgusting. It's like a load of bomb craters. There's no road surface as it's never been tarmaced as it's a little country road."

Cllr David Page, vice-chairman of Red Lodge Parish Council, said he had met with Derek Cooper, Turners and Haird's which were aware of the issue and trying to rectify it.

He said the shovel used to level the road surface had broken before Christmas, when the problem became worse wth the bad weather, but was now repaired with Turners agreeing to provide labour and operate the equipment to keep the road in a fit state for residents.

Cllr Page said he had arranged another meeting with landowners Greene King to further discuss the issue.

"We are all concerned about it but I think that by talking to all the parties concerned that the best solution has come through," he said.

"If the road deteriorates again we may well have to look at a different way of doing things."
