Twenty-seven-year-old Ian Fenn was found by his sister Kate in the living room of his bungalow home, Fenfield, in Barway near Ely on October 2 last year. He had last been seen alive six days earlier.

In a statement to the inquest, Pc Andrew McKean said when he was called to the house by Miss Fenn he found a hypodermic needle in Mr Fenn's arm.

Pathologist Dr Penny Wright said in a statement that a post mortem examination had revealed that Mr Fenn had implants in his body to try to control his addiction. His GP, Dr Richard Burnford, said he had been receiving treatment for drug addiction since 2000.

He said he had attended drug rehabilitation clinics in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009 but had not stopped using drugs. He had also been prescribed the heroin substitute methadone.

Cambridgeshire coroner Dr David Osborne said Mr Fenn's death was consistent with extensive use of drugs and that he had died as a result of his drug dependancy.
