TEACHING and learning at the Windmills pre-school in Gazeley is good, according to its recent Ofsted inspection.
The strength of the new team of staff, which started working together in September last year, was recognised by the Ofsted inspector who said they were both "sensitive and committed".

"Staff work exceptionally well together and know their roles an
d responsibilities. The quality of teaching and learning is good," said the inspector.

The pre-school leader, Sue Harrison, said: "Since being together for only a very short time we were over the moon to get a positive Ofsted report.

"The children make coming to work fun. We will continue to improve the learning environment and aim for outstanding at our next Ofsted."

Opened in 1996, Windmills Pre-school is based in Gazeley village hall, which has a large enclosed garden.

The inspector said: "Children's large physical skills are very well promoted outside where they are able to run freely in a safe environment, in the secure enclosed outdoor play area.

"Walks are taken in the local area which also helps to contribute to a healthy lifestyle."

The behaviour of the 24 children on the pre-school's register was praised by the inspector who said: "Children behave exceptionally well. Staff are good role models and adopt a consistent and positive approach to the management of children's behaviour."

And the inspector added: "Children have access to a wide range of resources which are set out attractively and meet the varying needs of all the children who attend."

As a registered charity, Windmills is dependent upon fundraising and the support of the local community and a recent 60s night raised £630 for the pre-school.

The pre-school's next fundraising event will be on Saturday at the village hall between 2.30pm and 4pm, when there will be a special Easter event including an Easter egg hunt, cake stall, best dressed teddy competition, tombola, plant stall, refreshments and a raffle.

Windmills is open during school term time from Monday to Friday, 9.30 to noon, with optional lunch club to 1pm for children from two years of age through to school admission.
