ORGANISERS of Saturday's Newmarket Carnival are hoping for plenty of sunshire for the town's big day.
This year's event, which will officially launch the Newmarket Festival, has been organised by the town council and the carnival theme is television.

The parade will assemble on The Severals for judging before the floats and other attractions move off at 1pm to make their way along the High Street to the Rowley Mile racecourse's family enclosure.

The parade will be led by Newmarket Journal Carnival Princess, nine-year-old Carissa Plumb and her two attendants, Emily Fairweather and Hannah Davy, who will travel in an open-top vintage car.

Also in the parade will be other classic cars, members of the emergancy services, the Newmarket Hotshots majorettes and members of the Newmarket Jazzercise group.

At the Rowley Mile, a host of attractions await visitors including a climbing wall, an army assault course, a bouncy slide and fun house and a tug-of-war as well as displays of Korean martial arts and twirling by the Newmarket Hotshots.

There will also be refeshment stands and a tea tent run by members of Newmarket's St Mary's Church.

The carnival is on between 2pm and 5.30pm and entry is free to visitors.

A free bus service will operate between Hughes in the High Street and the racecourse throughout the afternoon.
