Brandon rape latest

MORE than a thousand people have visited the police pod in the car park at Tesco in Brandon, following the rape and abduction of a woman on Saturday, June 14.
The 21-year-old victim was in the car park on London Road at around 2.15pm that afternoon and was called over by a man asking for help with heavy bags.
She helped him load a blue holdall into a 4x4 vehicle before being threatened with a knife, pushed inside and ordered to lie down.
The man then drove her to a remote location about 20 minutes away where he raped her before returning her to Wimbledon Avenue in Brandon later that afternoon.
Her attacker is described as white, in his late 50s or early 60s, around 5ft 3in tall, of medium build with a pot belly. He had bushy white/grey sideburns, with heavy grey facial hair and a ruddy complexion.
He was wearing a red woolly hat, a red fleece, black tracksuit bottoms, trainers and glasses. He was generally dirty and smoked roll-up cigarettes.
The car is described as an older-style dark-coloured 4x4 with front seats only, a row of four blue spotlights on a bull bar at the front, and a rear door rather than a boot. It is believed the car was in Tesco's car park when the woman arrived to go shopping.
The police pod was stationed in the supermarket car park last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, staffed by members of the Brandon Safer Neighbourhood Team who offered advice and reassurance to local people and shoppers.
Posters and leaflets were handed out, as well as over 500 personal alarms. Advice, information and alarms are also available from Forest Heath District Council at their cash offices in Brandon and Newmarket, their main office in Mildenhall and Mildenhall Bus Station.
Additional patrols are continuing in the town, as the two-week anniversary of the incident approaches. Appeal posters have been translated into Polish and Portuguese and these are going up around the town so that these communities are able to assist the investigation if they can.
Det Insp Martin Wright from Suffolk Police's Major Investigation Team is renewing the appeal for information.
"The inquiry team has a huge amount of information to sift through and investigate and I would like to thank those people who have called or e-mailed in and the media for their assistance," he said.
"However, I would continue to urge anyone who may have any information about this man, his vehicle or the location of the rape to contact us.
"It may be that someone saw the man, or the car, or the man in the car, somewhere else in the area before the incident took place, but because they were not at Tesco on the afternoon of the 14th they haven't called in. Any piece of information, however small and unrelated it may seem, could assist the investigation.
"The man must have gone about his daily business somewhere before this incident took place, and he must have carried on since or has changed his routine."
"If someone has suddenly changed their appearance or their usual activities, or has unexpectedly got a new car or a vehicle usually seen in a certain place has now vanished, please let us know."
The incident room can be contacted on 01473 613824 or by e-mail at incident.room@suffolk.pnn.police.uk . Calls can also be made to Suffolk Police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
