HOMES across Newmarket, Fordham and Soham were left without power for more than three hours on Thursday because of bad weather.
Network supplier EDF Energy blamed heavy winds and rain for the problem, which affected several thousand of its customers just after 3pm.

"High winds and heavy rain brought down trees, branches and debris," said a spokeswoman. "And when these make contact with our power lines, the network can be affected.

"We do understand how difficult it can be to be without power and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Power was finally restored by 6.30pm.
