STUDENTS across the area are planning to celebrate after another successful set of A-level results.
Pupils from Newmarket College, Mildenhall College of Technology and the King's School in Ely opened their exam reults today.

Top performers from Newmarket College included David Pascall with three A grades for biology, geography and general studies and a B in chemistry.

Meanwhile in Mildenhall, the college achieved a 97 per-cent pass rate from the 67 students at A-level.

Headteacher Terry Lewis said he was delighted with the results.
"We are very pleased with the grades that have been achieved here," said Mr Lewis.

He said the vast majority of students who had applied to universities or art colleges had got their first choice.

But Mr Lewis had particular praise for Katherine Hall from Mildenhall who got three As in biology, English literature and general studies and two Bs in chemistry and maths.

At King's School in Ely 85 per cent of results were graded A to C in a total of 28 subjects - a five per cent increase on 2007 results. The overall pass rate was 99 per cent.

Sascha Hedman and Sarah Deamer had a special reason to celebrate their results.

Both 18-year-olds achieved one of the top five marks in A-level Art and Design – Sascha in fine art and Sarah in textiles.

Michael Cresswell, director general of exam board AQA, congratulated them and the staff of The King's School Ely on "an exceptional result".

This is the sixth year running that King's Ely art and design students have achieved such success.

The overall percentage achieving As and Bs was 65 per cent, which was six per cent better than last year and the best on the school's records.
