A MILDENHALL charity shop faces closure if one of the UK's largest pizza chains is successful in its bid to move into its premises.
Domino's Pizza has submitted an application to Forest Heath to move into a shop currently occupied by the St Nicholas' Hospice furniture shop in Mildenhall's Market Place.

Paul Abbott, fundraising and marketing director, said: "We were fortunate enough to be offered the current premises at a reduced rent and we are very grateful to the landlord for enabling us to do this. We are now able to build on the experiences of the last six months and will be looking to move to new premises in the near future."

Since its grand opening in January by MP Richard Spring, the shop has raised more than £15,000 for the Bury St Edmunds-based charity.

Domino's existing store in the Smoke House Centre, the Street, Beck Row, is set to close to make way for 150 new homes due to be built by property developers Persimmon.

If planning permission to transform the charity shop into a fast-food outlet is refused, up to 17 people face the loss of their jobs.
The closing date of the shop is not yet know.

Colin Jarrod, of Domino's, said: "It is crucial that our loyal and long-serving workforce remains to serve the people of Mildenhall and we therefore urge local people to support this application."

The application for the Mildenhall shop comes on the heels of the fast-food giant's move into premises in the Guineas Shopping centre, Newmarket, overlooking the Market Square, which is due to open on September 1.
