RADIO listeners in Forest Heath will soon be able to tune in to a new Mildenhall-based radio station.
Forest Heath Public Radio, based in Hampstead Avenue, will be on air early this summer after Ofcom awarded it a five-year radio licence.

The project, which has been in the pipeline since 2002 and currently has around 20 volunteers working on it, is the idea of 42-year-old Jeff Davis.

He said: "I have worked on this project for seven years and Wednesday's decision showed that all the hard work was worth it."

The new station will have coverage in Forest Heath, Bury St Edmunds, Ely and parts of Cambridge.

Unlike many other local stations, FHPR will focus on the local community, in particular on young people, those at the military bases of RAF Lakenheath and Mildenhall, and minority ethnic communities.

The station will find out its frequency allocation by May. For more information, call 01638 711873.
