Working with the National
Talented youngsters from the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds are to stage a production of Tomorrow I Will Be Happy, in collaboration with the National Theatre.
The provocative play by Jonathan Harvey is billed as exciting and visceral.
It follows the story of a stranger who arrives in a crumbling seaside town looking for Darren, an old friend, only to discover he was recently killed in a brutal homophobic attack.
As the secrets of the past come spilling out, we learn that all is not quite as it seems with Darren’s group of friends.
National Theatre: Connections is a national festival of new writing and young theatre making, giving young people aged 13-19, the chance to work with industry professionals. The group from the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, led by young director Amy Wyllie,have been involved in all aspects of the play’s production.
Amy said: “Having attended the director’s weekend at the National Theatre, I came back to Suffolk brimming with ideas. I began rehearsals with nine members of the cast and they are proving to be an incredibly talented bunch.”
The production will be performed at the Theatre Royal on February 11 before transferring to Norwich Playhouse for four dates and possibly a later date at the National Theatre, London.
