Review of King's School Ely's Cabaret

The Hayward Theatre was packed and there were more than just a few entertainers who made up the Cabaret at the King's School Ely recently.

The highlight of the evening was more than mere 'cabaret' – we were treated to a fine duet: "The point of no Return" from the Phantom of the Opera in true operatic style. The audience was spellbound.

A charming performance of "A Whole New World" and "Blame in on my Youth" helped fit the picture while we were entertained with talent of such versatility that we never quite knew what treats could top the items we had heard before.

Items included exciting dance routines, a variety of solo presentations, a very appealing interpretation of "The Mocking Bird Song" with singer and guitarist, hot jazz from a talented pianist and a meaningfully phrased offering of "Losing my mind".

"Me and my Shadow", the perennial spin, an endearing "Dream a little Dream on Me" and an amazing band piece: "Fly me to the Moon" were additional delights.

These young performers displayed great courage and enthusiasm and there is no doubt that the future of music is assured with the spread of the emerging talent we witnessed at this event. Under the guidance of Adella Charlton and Actor in Residence, Nick Huntington, the performers flourished.

The final topping on the cake came from the item presented by Adella Charlton and Nick Huntington. While Nick sang with his excellent voice, "You Raise me Up", Adella provided hilarious props.

They brought the house down. There seems to be no end to this school's ability to entertain well in almost any genre you care to name.
