NEWMARKET Day Centre has received a cash boost thanks to a collection made at the Carols by Candlelight service held at Ely Cathedral just before Christmas.
The Acting Dean of Ely Cathedral, Canon David Pritchard was at the centre in Fred Archer Way to present a cheque for £1,746 to Nigel Wright, chairman the Friends of the Newmarket Day Centre committee.
“We appreciate the generous support given by Ely Cathedral which helped the Friends Committee to raise nearly £20,000 in 2011,” said Mr Wright.
“We will continue to organise fundraising events to help the charity provide much needed services for the elderly in and around Newmarket and we are looking forward to an exciting programme this year and welcoming new supporters to our events.”
The Newmarket Day Centre ‘Time of Your Life’ was founded in 1981 and the Carols by Candlelight completed a memorable 30th anniversary year, which included visits from The Queen, Pam Rhodes, Bob Champion and Frankie Dettori.
Canon Pritchard, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Newmarket Day Centre. We are extremely proud of the work they do which makes such a difference to the welfare and needs of the elderly in our community. There is much more to be done and we hope our relationship with the Newmarket Day Centre will continue to grow.”
