MS Field appears to have succumbed to Prof Allen's emotional blackmail in his attempt to obtain funding for his research (Letters, June 7).
He would have little old ladies believe that his experiments are ethical. I believe the late Lady Beaverbrook was a past benefactor.

Does Ms Field think that the animals in question live happily ever after? I believe animals used in research are destroyed at the end of the study.

And why the need for cloning? We manipulate nature at our peril and how many animals suffer to obtain even one viable foetus?

It is correct to describe racing as an industry – one which generates £9.6 billion.

Massive overbreeding results in thousands of horses being discarded or destroyed every year, often before the age of four or five.

This is shameful exploitation of a noble creature, all to provide entertainment for the uncaring masses.

Prof Allen should retire and leave the animals in peace.
