Where's the sense in £300,000 cost?

THANK goodness the district councillors have seen sense and decided to spend £300,000 on their Mildenhall headquarters improvements instead of £3.2 million.
I could, as a humble council tax payer, save them even more money.

For example, why spend £1,210 on a 32in HD ready plasma television when a quick look at page 11 of last week's Journal will prove you can buy a 40in TV from Hughes for £799.

Where is the sense in paying £410 more for something less?

Secondly, the food vending machine costing £5,500 – what's wrong with buying sandwiches from the mobile sandwich van that tours Mildenhall each day? They will even bring the sandwiches to your office.

As for the showers, haven't the council workers got showers at home?

Perhaps they could have a shower before they leave home or, even better, have one when they get home after work.

I did read recently that 25 per cent of our council tax goes towards council workers' pensions.

Why should we, as hard up council tax payers, contribute to their pensions when the rest of us have to pay for our own?
