These morons are not countrymen

WE HAVE recently had the opportunity to watch wildlife closely and intimately thanks to the BBC television programme Springwatch.
You soon learn how finely balanced life and death are for tiny baby birds and how these resilient little bundles survive against nearly all the odds.

Unfortunately, not everyone watches, knows or cares about these things.

Take, for example, the moron who vandalised all the roadside hedges at Eriswell, either pulverising any nest and babies or exposing them to the weather and predators.

I hope these people do not call themselves countrymen as they obviously are not aware of, or do not care about, what damage they are doing to the local environment and the wildlife which depends on it.

It surely would have been no problem to have waited a few more weeks to give the birds time to fledge the nest before destroying the hedges they use for their homes.

Also, they could take a few lessons from some of the farms around Newmarket on how to maintain a hedge, instead of pulverising it into a mess of split and bare wood resembling little more than a war zone.
