I SEE from the Journal's letters page that Newmarket Liberal Democrat Andrew Appleby wants to replace our local council with a single Suffolk authority and 75 full-time councillors.
At £40,000-a-head, that would mean spending between £4 and £5 million a year on local councillors.

This would replace the present 478 councillors who, with allowances, cost around £1 million.

Perhaps people would like to remember this when voting in any forthcoming elections where there are Liberal Democrat candidates.
