IT MAY seem unnecessary for me to pour more scorn on the National Trust's latest news, but your coverage of the official opening of the new £300,000 bridge over Swaffham Bulbeck Lode (Journal, July 17) omits to mention some serious questions that ensue from its existence.
For instance, the new bridge is much larger and wider than the existing footbridge a short distance up-stream.

My friends and neighbours and I are concerned that motorcyclists will use and abuse this new route through Swaffham Bulbeck and Swaffham Prior Fens, rightly described as "some very quiet countryside".

The new bridge, principally planned for walkers and cyclists, is wide enough for two motorcyclists actually to pass on it and, with the central wooden bollards removed, would it not be wide enough for motor vehicles as well?

I am sure the National Trust does not intend the new bridge to be used or abused by either motorcyclists or motor vehicles but, as was once said, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Secondly, I wonder if local folk approved their tax and lottery support for all this?
