TRHOUGH your columns, I would like to thank all those involved in the very successful visit by a party of young people from Lexington, Kentucky, to Newmarket which was organised by the Lexington-Newmarket Link Committee.
The visitors were hugely appreciative of all that was done for them and in particular the host families of students of Newmarket College who accommodated them for their two-week stay.

Their programme involved spending time with the families, activ
ities at the college, tours of Newmarket's heritage and racing connections and trips to Cambridge, London and Bury St Edmunds.

None of this would have been possible without the generous financial support for this initiative. I would, therefore, like to thank the Newmarket Round Table, Tattersalls, Jockey Club Estates, Team Event, Studlands Printing and Keeneland Sales as well as Newmarket Town Council for their generous support.

As a result, we believe we have established the first steps in creating a meaningful link between the young people of Newmarket and Lexington and, in so doing, opened up new opportunities to them. We hope to arrange an outward trip of Newmarket students in 2009.

Finally, I would like to thank the members of the Lexington-Newmarket Link Committee who have worked so hard to bring this visit to fruition.

Rory MacDonald OBE
Chairman
The Lexington-Newmarket
Link Committee
