WITH the boundary committees' instruction ringing loud, Forest Heath Council undertook its own consultation to gauge the public's view on plans to re-organise local government.
It found that a majority of respondents were happy with the current arrangements, with 60 per cent opting to keep the district council, deciding local really was best and there was no need for change.
Later, at a parish forum, 90 per cent of those
present preferred to retain the status quo.
So, that's it then – majority and democracy rule. Well, no, that's not what the Government wants.
Our beloved left wing Government has a European dream agenda. It's called "centralise, centralise, centralise".
Only by reducing the number of councils, and therefore local government, can it seek to control, by bribes, threats and other means.
It will also be easier to assimilate Britain into those transnational regions which have been set up by the EU.
Eastern England could soon become part of the North Sea region, which includes Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and Norway.
The ruling authority would be Denmark, which could be worse.
Anyway, what does Forest Heath Council intend to do about that majority vote?
Well, it plans to disregard it and go with the 18 per cent who voted for the east/west Suffolk model.
How's that for a kick in the teeth?
