THE staff at Scaltback Middle School were all devastated to hear the tragic news about the fire at St Felix. It is such a blow after Mr Bavington and his team have been working so hard to develop the school.
During the last couple of years there has been a great spirit of co-operation between our two groups of staff and we are all very proud of the progress that has been made.

Between us we have been enjoying the most successful academic results the
children of Newmarket have ever achieved. Let us hope this setback is shortlived and the new facilities at St Felix Village will enable the children to continue their successes.

The next few months will be a very difficult time for the St Felix children and staff and we will do anything we can to help them.

During the time when the Key Stage 2 children in Years 5 and 6 are accommodated in the primary schools we are making available some of our specialist teaching areas so that, hopefully, they will not miss out too much on some of the practical aspects of their work.

We have also made available as much of our lesson planning and resources as possible so that any teachers from St Felix can have immediate access to suitable materials.

It has been really good to see how all the schools in the area have pulled together to support St Felix during this time and we wish them well during the challenging term ahead.

Phil Vigrass
