Young bookworms get their reward
Newmarket Journal - 26th September 2011 SOHAM LIBRARY READING CHALLENGE PRESENTATIONS WITH COUNTY COUNCILLOR JOHN POWLEY AND ROSEMARY AITCHISON CHAIRMAN SOHAM TOWN COUNCIL.
YOUNG bookworms in Soham are celebrating after completing a summer reading challenge.
A total of 136 children aged between four and 11 years old completed the challenge during this year’s school summer holidays and 70 youngsters attended a prizegiving at Soham library last month.
Medals and certificates were handed out by Cllr John Powley, of Cambridgeshire County Council, and Cllr Rosemary Aitchison, chairman of Soham Town Council, at the Clay Street library.
Louise Aldridge, senior children’s librarian for Fenland and East Cambs, said: “It’s such a celebratory and positive event. It was really nice.”
The national challenge was set up by the Reading Agency to encourage children to keep reading during the summer holidays.
To complete the challenge children must read at least six books in as many weeks, collecting stickers as they complete each book.
