Walter George Burrows

FORMER caravan builder Walter George Burrows, formerly of Dalham Road, Ashley, died in Kingfisher nursing home, Newmarket, on August 24. He was 82.

Born in Ashley on May 16, 1927, the sixth of seven children, to Walter and Matilda Burrows, he had three brothers and three sisters and was better known by many as Tupsy.

He attended Ashley village school and on leaving went to work as a farm labourer for Major Claydon.

He then went on to work for Fertilime and Sprite Caravans.

Mr Burrows met Winnie Pavis of Kirtling and the couple married in 1957 making their home in Ashley.

They had two daughters, Olive and Celia, and when they were young they enjoyed many family holidays together along the coast of East Anglia.

He retired in 1992, after which he carried out gardening

and odd-jobbing to keep himself active, and able to afford the occasional pint at the local.

During this time the couple, along with friends Jean and Doug, enjoyed many happy holidays which provided lots of the

highlights of his lifetime.

Mrs Burrows died in 2006.

Mr Burrows leaves his two daughters, and four grandchildren, Daniel, Daryl, Zoe and Jamie.

His funeral was held at St Mary's Church, Ashley, on September 3 and the service was taken by Derrick Aspland followed by interment in Ashley cemetery alongside his wife.

Terry Iason (Brenda and family), Mark Cox (Tracey Denness and Tim and Vicky Cox), Malcolm and Carolyn Cox (Mrs M Benton), Linda Cox, Mr and Mrs T Mayes (Hazel Rolfe and Ed Curtis), Mr and Mrs J Ransome (Pam and Gordon Plaice), Veronica and Peter Norman (Brian and Bridget), Shirley and Dave Williams, and

Paul and Angie Pavis.

Other mourners were: Jean and Doug Everitt, Terry Lathangue,

Mr R Morley, Margaret Jackson (Harold Jackson), Mr J A Smith (Ashley Stores), Pat Doherty (Mr and Mrs J Allard), Mr and Mrs P Whymark, Mr and Mrs B Davey, Mr and Mrs R Plummer, Mr W Aldous, Mrs A Docking, Les Winter (Jill Winter), Kevin and Sheila Allan, Alan Donovan (Christine Donovan), Geordie Beckett (Avril Beckett, Jackand Heather Kerry), Melanie Kirby and Ronnie Cronin.
