Traffic flow is now even worse
THERE have been many excellent letters in the Journal on the various and unnecessary problems with our traffic flow, the newly created problems at the clock tower and the balls.
The balls are just a typical example of the county council spending our money in a totally inappropriate way and, as with the whole clock tower project, someone should be held responsible.
The biggest problem is the traffic flow, originally caused by whichever 'planner' allowed Waitrose plans to only include one entrance/exit.
And of course it has been made even worse by the unbelievably stupid new clock tower scheme. I had to travel in a bus recently coming from Station Road to go into the High Street.
As luck would have it there was nothing coming towards the clock tower from the High Street, or it would have been quite impossible, as it would for any large horsebox.
Did the planners realise that our town has a constant flow of large horseboxes?
The only hope now is for a second or third entrance/exit to Waitrose in Fordham Road, or from and into Exeter Road via the edge of the church car park and to open up Exeter Road again on to Exning Road.
In addition to this, they must take away the lights at the Fordham Road/Fred Archer Way junction and put a mini roundabout there, which will then keep the traffic flowing down Fordham Road and relieve the clock tower congestion.
But it is time that someone took responsibility for the cost of this terrible mess, including those ridiculous balls.

I WOULD like to say what a delight it was to drive around the clock tower and the Fordham road/Waitrose Fred Archer Way junctions on April Fools' Day, as there was no traffic jams and no hold ups. It was wonderful.
Customers remarked how much cheaper their fares were and how their journey times were much quicker.
The reason for this phenomenon? All the traffic lights had been turned off for a whole day.
Perhaps this could be considered when the racing season starts because we all think there's going to be one heck of a hold up on race days with the new restricted clock tower improvements.
