Sylvia Joyce Pearson

THE funeral of Sylvia Joyce Pearson took place at St Nicholas' Church, Kennett, on November 5.

Mrs Pearson, who was known as Joyce and lived in Church Lane in the village, died at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, on October 26. She was 80.

Born in 1929 in Mildenhall the eldest of four, she was educated at Tuddenham and Mildenhall leaving school at 14 she went into service to look after children. She worked in Devon and then came back to the area to be employed at the Old Rectory, Kennett, living at her place of work.

She married Ernie Pearson in 1951 at Tuddenham Church and the couple produced three sons, Ronald, Andrew and Malcolm, and two daughters, Dianne and Carol, in their 41 years together.

She was a good cook, and involved in and around the village for many years providing cricket teas and football half-time drinks. She played darts at Kentford Cock and loved all sport on the television especially snooker and football, and listening to the music of Daniel O'Donnell. Latterly she thoroughly enjoyed her holidays to Mundesley with the other mature members of the Kennett Society. The Gredley trips and Christmas dinners were also among her favourites.

Widowed in 1992, she leaves three sons, two daughters, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The service was taken by the Rev Michael Banyard and family mourners were: Ronald and Margaret Pearson, Dianne and Robert Turner, Carol and Kevin Sessions, Andrew and Mandy Pearson, Malcolm Pearson (rep Lorraine, Sam and Chloe), Val and John Wing (Pauline and John), Carrie Turner, Rob Leak, Alan Turner, Rebecca Goosam, Ronnie Sessions (Alfie, and grandson Nick who is serving in Afghanistan), Leigh Sessions (Jessica), Gemma Sessions, Shaun Sessions, Rosmaire and Paul Pearson (Jay), Rosanna Holley, Michaela Pearson and Oliver Leak.

Other mourners were: Mr and Mrs M Daines (Gina Humphries and family), Mrs A James, Mr and Mrs C James, Mr and Mrs B Jones, Mr J Wybrew, Mary Deary (family), Kelvin and Lottie James, Michael Peacock, Meg Gilbert, Joan Mitson (Maurice, Christina and family), Daphne Kidd, Glenda and Ron Scotchmere, Posie Howe (Nigel), Heidi Adamson (Thomas Crawford), E Lomas, M Byam (Sue and family), Mary Cooke, Eric Turner, Lisa Howlett (Ian, and Sue and Keith Rouse), Mr and Mrs R Dean (Gareth and Andrew), Betty Dean (Mrs Bullass), Edna and Arthur Wheal, Patricia Gooderham, Pam and Trevor, Mrs N Ebbs, June Manning (Molly and Eileen), Patrick Bailey, Irene Mason, Diane Wallis (family and Kennett School), Marge Last (family) and Robin and Margaret Watson.
