STUDENTS at a Soham school are gearing up for next year’s Olympics.

Soham Village College has joined the Get Set Network, which unites schools across the country to inspire youngsters to get involved in projects and activities.

The network is based on the Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination.

Kris Covell, PE teacher at the Sand Street school, said: “Our students are fantastic at getting involved in whole school events.

“We have already put in place the Proud of Soham initiative which involves every student in the school. This initiative has proved to be very successful.

“We plan to have an Olympic Sports Week in 2012. Our heads of houses are currently developing a whole school programme of events that will run over the year and hopefully well into the future, long after the games.”
