Rhoda Goddard

Rhoda Ada Goddard of Cornwallis Court, Bury St Edmunds, died at her home on August 21. She was 98.

Mrs Goddard who was born in Hertfordshire and lived in north London, Bishop's Stortford, Much Hadham and Burwell, was a junior school teacher before her marriage in 1939 after which she became a full time housewife and mother.

She was a member of the Inner Wheel Club, Women's Institute and the Mothers' Union in Burwell and the WI in Swaffham Pior as well as the Burwell Workers' Educational Association. She was also a regular church goer often reading lessons.

Her hobbies included art - painting with water colours, sketching with pastels and life drawing, calligraphy, sewing, gardening and the countryside and rural matters. Her main interest was her family and she loved the company of babies and children and was an excellent story teller.

A widow, she leaves two daughters Ruth and Judith, grandsons Charles and James and great granddaughters Daisy, Poppy amd Agnes.

Her funeral service was held at the West Suffolk Crematorium when the Rev David Bush and the Rev Canon Michael McAdam officiated.

Mourners included: Ruth and Robin Scovil (daughter and son-in-law), Judith Goddard (daughter), Charles and Alana Gillham, Daisy and Poppy Gillham, James Gillham (Jacquie and Agnes Gillham), Tim and Mary George, Christopher and Diane Goddard, Janet and Paul Malin, Muriel and Godfrey Gaillard, David Gaillard, Betty Driver and Roger Goddard.

Rosemary Scovil, Sally Beadle, Yvonne Beadle, Heloise Beadle, Sandra McAdam, Anita Bush, Mary Patrick, Sue Evans, Barbara and Tom Green, Ian and Betty Lyon, Barbara and Len Jackson, Graham Eustance, Mrs Phyl Sanford, Susan Cole, Kate Weston, Monica Brett, Christine and Bill Stiles, Diana Ridsdill Smith, Mrs Helen Pratt, Jo Hall, Simon Rogers, Dennis and Dot Townsend, Kersty Dodd, Ann Nobbs, Sue Gosling, Dorothy Madeley, Anne Marie Hemmant (staff and residents of Cornwallis Court).
