Recipe to cut party stress

Suffolk County Council is trying to make street party stress a thing of the past by simplifying the process for residents organising events to mark the Diamond Jubilee weekend IN June.

Previously, the responsibility of approving street parties rested with district and borough councils, as well as the county council. Now the county council will be the only council responsible for all street party applications, making the process smoother for organisers of events taking place on Suffolk highways.

Those considering organising a street party only have to follow a few simple steps to obtain a special events order through the county council’s web site or over the phone via customer service direct.

Applications should be made as soon as possible.

The change follows a government call to councils to make it easier for residents to celebrate the Jubilee.

Cllr Guy McGregor, said; “With the application process a lot simpler and with no cost for those who avoid affecting the traffic flow, we are confident this will be a recipe for success for many residents.

“Our aim is to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the Jubilee weekend and make organisers’ jobs a lot easier by cutting the amount of red tape that can often surround these events.”
