Pat Morris

THE memorial service for Pat (Patricia Helen) Morris, of Southfields Close, Newmarket, took place at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on July 14.

Mrs Morris died at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, on June 22, shortly after being admitted for medical treatment.

Born in Saffron Walden, Essex, on February 29, 1924, her father's employment with the railways led to the family moving to Newmarket in her early childhood, after which she spent most of her life in the town.

Educated at Newmarket Secondary School, she worked in aircraft factories for much of the Second World War.

She later gained employment at Magnetic Devices (now Dialight BLP) where she spent most of her working life until retirement.

She enjoyed holidays in Italy, Ireland and Switzerland, and was a keen reader, with an active interest in current affairs and horse racing: her mind remained clear and lucid until the end.

As she was born on a leap year day, she celebrated her 21st birthday party with members of her family in 2008.

The service, which was attended by relatives, former work colleagues, and many of her friends and neighbours, was taken by the Rev Paul Webb, of St George's Church, Bury St Edmunds.

Her ashes will be scattered on Newmarket Heath.
