Obituary: Terence Jones
THE funeral of Terence Michael Jones (Terry), of George Gibson Close, Exning, took place at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on January 12.
Mr Jones, who was 75, died at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, on December 28, 2011.
Born in Mold, Flintshire, North Wales, he came to Newmarket aged 15 to become an apprentice jockey to Norman Bertie at Green Lodge Stables. He loved horses and horseracing, so it was only fitting that he should spend the last 11 years of his working life as caretaker/valet of the Jockey Club chambers in Newmarket, where his hard work, dedication and attention to detail was appreciated by all who stayed there.
He was devoted to his family and leaves his wife Betty, a son, Michael, and a granddaughter, Laura.
The service was taken by the Racing Welfare chaplain, the Rev Graham Locking and included a tribute by nephew Bill McLean.
