Obituary: Frederick Bennett

The funeral of Frederick (Fred) James Bennett took place at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, on November 8.

Mr Bennett, of Hill View, Lidgate, died in Newmarket Hospital on November 1. He was 80.

Born and educated in Norwich, he apprenticed in the city as a painter and decorator, a trade that was to see him throughout his working life until retirement, with the exception of two years in the RAF in the 1950s.

He had his own business for 11 years but also worked for various other painting and decorating companies.

He loved horse racing but was also interested in the war years, history in general, gardening, doing crosswords, quiz shows and, of course, spending time with his family.

Mr Bennett is survived by his wife, Rose, and leaves two sons, Steven and Michael, three daughters, Christine, Janice and Susan, 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Gemma, Stephanie, Charlotte, Abbi, Lucia, Christian, Hannah, Eva and Emily, and six great-grandchildren, Sophie, Daisy-Mae, Lily Rose, Alfie, Ben and Louie.

The service was taken by the Rev Tessa Redman.

Family mourners were: Rose Bennett (widow), Steven and Cheryl Bennett, Michael and Diane Bennett, Janice and Mark Westley (rep Emily), Eva Westley, Susan and Steven West and Christian and Hannah, Anita Bennett, Arthur and Sheila Manning, David, Andrew and Angela Manning, Pauline Blake, Wayne Horridge and Maureen Horridge.

Other mourners were: Tracey Baxter, Michael Claydon, Marguerite West, Christine and Steve Farr (Jane and Nigel), Wendy Mudd, Denise Wreathall, Peter and Margaret Westley ( Derek and Mary Swann and James and Julie Westley), Doug and Sally Nudd (John Ransome), Emma Whatling, Carl Nunn and family, Tina Shaw (Gary Shaw), John and Yvonne Crysell, Ricky Nunn (Josh Whitehead), Carl and Bobbie Beck, Chris and Kim Whitehead, Bibby Hazel and Paul and Barbara Turner.
