Mary Stuart

FORMER teacher Mary Stuart died at Hilton Park care centre, Bottisham, on July 2, aged 94.

Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, she was educated at the University of Durham and King's College, Newcastle, where she gained a degree in English in 1937.

She arrived in Newmarket in 1947, and became a member of St Agnes' Church and was involved with many clubs including the Townswomen's Guild, Nadfas (The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies), the Business and Professionals 1990 Club and the Workers' Education Association.

She was a teacher at Fairstead House School for more than 25 years.

Widow of Bill Stuart, who was a teacher at the grammar and upper schools in Newmarket, who died in 1990, she leaves a son, Ian, and daughter, Alison, together with four grandchildren.

Her funeral took place at St Agnes' Church, Newmarket, on July 9. The Rev John Hardy officiated.

Family mourners were: Ian and Cynthia Stuart, Alison and Barrie Parsons, Richard and Susan Stuart, Nicola and Andrew Sheail, Julie and David Hughes and Catherine, David and Malcolm Anderson.
