Mary Bain

MARY Bain, of Ironbridge Path, Fordham, died peacefully at her home on April 14 after a short illness. She was 88.

Born and living all her life in Fordham, she attended Ely High School for Girls during the 1930s and during the war years was a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service in Mildenhall. She was also seconded to the food office, also in Mildenhall.

Prior to retirement, Mrs Bain worked as a secretary at Boon's builders yard in Fordham.

A voracious reader, particularly history and the Tudor period, she also enjoyed poetry and as detective fiction.

She was kind and generous and supported local animal charities.

She had cats all her life and adored animals.

Widowed in 1960, Mrs Bain leaves a daughter Anthea, and is survived by her brother John.

She also has a brother-in-law, two nieces and one nephew in Perth, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand.

Her funeral was held at St Peter's Church, Fordham, on May 4 and the Rev Kate Peacock officiated.

Family mourners were: Anthea Bain (daughter) and Mr and Mrs John Webb.
