Leslie Heffer

THE funeral of Leslie John Charles Heffer, of Thirlwall Drive, Fordham, took place at St Peter's Church, Fordham, on July 12.

Mr Heffer, who was known as Sandy, died at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, on June 28. He was 76.

Born in Burwell, where he attended St Mary's School, he did his National Service between 1951 and 1953 with the Royal Anglia Service Corp.

From 1959 until he retired in April 1998 he was employed at Tillotson's box factory in Burwell where he met his late wife Sheila.

He also helped his good friend Ken Driver on his coal round.

He had lived in Fordham for more than 45 years and was a regular visitor to Fordham Royal British Legion where he enjoyed a game of Nap on a Sunday dinner time.

Keen on tug-of-war, he pulled many times and won several trophies with local teams. He also loved shooting, horseracing and watching Fordham's cricket and football teams.

Mrs Heffer died in 2000. He leaves a son, John, daughter, Lesley and six grandchildren, Lee, Kayleigh, Daniel, Victoria, Rebbeca and Katherine.

The service was taken by the Rev Kate Peacock and John Rampley was standard bearer for the Royal British Legion.
