Joanne Austin

MORE than 300 people attended the funeral of Joanne Austin at St John's Church in Beck Row after her sudden death from a heart attack at her home in Mildenhall on February 17. She was 51.

A Beck Row girl, she was educated at the village primary school and at Mildenhall Secondary Modern.

After her marriage in 1980 she moved to Mildenhall and in the following years gave birth to three children.

After her divorce she met Paul, her present partner, and eventually the couple set up home together, with her taking on his two boys as well.

She had various jobs throughout her younger years, but had been working at the Royal Worlington Golf Club for several years before her death.

As the cook and in charge of the kitchen, she really loved her job there and was well-known for her soups, cakes and desserts, which were exceptional.

She was loved and respected there so much that, for the first time in its history, the club closed for the day of her funeral.

Ms Austin had spent a lot of time in the past few weeks arranging her daughter's wedding, which poignantly went ahead. It was a bitter-sweet day for all her family.

The Rev Dan Mullen conducted the service followed by cremation on March 3. Her ashes were buried with those of her late father, Michael Lynch.

Family mourners were: Paul Austin (partner), Hayley, Nick and Sarah Abrey, Liam and Nicky Austin, Pam Lynch, Steven Lynch, Sue, Toby, David and Joshua Bryan, Dominic De Cicco, Pat and Cliff Horne, Daphne and Frank Aves, Vera Sturgeon, Bette Lynch, Brian and Margaret Lynch, Beverley and Rachel Filby, John and Angela Lynch, Jackie and Ray Southgate, Nicola and Derek Spice, Sharon, Andy, Chloe and Mariah Moules, Karen and Kyle McFetridge, Neil and Nancy Horne, Margaret Mcleese, Anita and Mark Lynch, Andrea Charles, Iris McCabe, Laureen and Tom Austin, Graham Abrey and Jean and Brian Abrey.
