Newmarket Journal - october 2011 SCALTBACK MIDDLE SCHOOL HEAD OF GEOGRAPHY TEACHER SOPHIE GYNN AND PUPILS EMILY BOWMAN, GEORGIA CARR, EMILY TAYLOR, JEROME FORD AND JAMES TURNER ALL YEAR 8 WITH THEIR AWARD.
A SCHOOL in Newmarket has been rewarded for its high standards in geography teaching.
Scaltback Middle School, in Elizabeth Avenue, received a Secondary Geography Quality Mark for excellence in teaching and learning in geography.
The prize was awarded by the Geographical Association to 40 schools across the country and Scaltback Middle School was the only school in Suffolk to receive the award.
Sophie Gynn, head of geography, said: “We are really pleased to have been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark.
“A lot of hard work was completed by pupils and teachers to enable us to be rewarded for the teaching and learning of this subject within our school.”
The award, now in its fifth year, reflects the national standard for the teaching of geography. It aims to promote effective leadership and management to help teachers raise the standards of geography in schools.
Scaltback Middle School will attend the Geographical Association’s annual conference at the University of Manchester in April, 2012.
