Free electric blanket safety testing across Cambridgeshire

Pensioners can have their electric blanket tested by experts for free at fire stations across Cambridgeshire as part of a campaign in

conjunction with Age UK Cambridgeshire.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS), along with the charity Age UK, is running the testing days. All blankets that fail will be disposed of and replaced with a new one.

Residents over the age 60 can book slots between 10am and 4pm for qualified Pact engineers to check the safety of their blankets for free on the

following days:

January 14 – Papworth Fire Station

January 15 – Littleport Fire Station

January 21 – Ramsey Fire Station

January 22 – March Fire Station

Wendy Coleman, Community Risk Manager at CFRS, said: “As temperatures threaten to drop in the remaining winter months, many residents will be dusting off electric blankets to stay warm at night. However, electric blankets contain heating elements that can be dangerous if broken or allowed to overheat.

“We’re keen to support this scheme with Age UK as it is a great opportunity for residents to be safe and get expert fire prevention advice. Our Community Champions will also be on hand to provide tips to residents about electric blankets.”

To book a slot to have your electric blanket tested, call Age UK on 01354 696650.
