Freda Swann
FREDA Rose Lucy Swann of Ditton Green, Wood Ditton, died at her home on September 22. She was 86.
Born at Clacton-on-Sea, Mrs Swann, who was a school teacher, had lived in Wood Ditton since 1940. During the war years she served in the Women's Land Army.
She was co-ordinator of the Ellesmere Centre in Stetchworth and a member and former treasurer of Wood Ditton Women's Institute.
In her younger days she enjoyed playing badminton, squash and tennis and was a member of the Congregational Tennis Club and the Newmarket Badminton Federation.
Mrs Swann was a community correspondent for the Newmarket Journal for many years and was also a leader with the Girl Guides.
She leaves two daughters Elizabeth and Mary, grandsons Christopher, Michael and Andrew and great-grandchildren Sean, Liam, Robyn, Adam, Lucy, Toby, Sophie and Holly.
Her funeral service was held at St Mary's Church, Wood Ditton, on September 30 when Derrick Aspland officiated.
