Four star studies for hotel student

A student from Burwell has been awarded a £3,000 scholarship to help pay for her studies at the country’s first hotel school based in a fully operational hotel.
Emma Sutton, who wants to become a hotel manager, started her course at the Edge Hotel School in September after receiving her scholarship from the Savoy Educational Trust.
The 18-year-old enrolled at the hotel, which is on the University of Essex’s Colchester campus, after completing her A-levels and gaining experience by working in a local hotel.
She also worked as a children’s gymnastics coach while studying.
Emma is now studying for a degree in hotel management, combining academic study with practical experience of working in the newly-refurbished Wivenhoe House Hotel in Colchester.
“I know that I learn best with a hands-on approach to my studies making the Edge Hotel School, which focuses on learning-by-doing, the perfect next step to achieve my ambition of managing a quality hotel,” she said.
The Savoy Educational Trust scholarships are designed to support talented students and help encourage the outstanding hospitality managers of the future. They were awarded by a panel based on a combination of criteria from the application form and supporting statement.
