Charity night raises hospice cash
Music and comedy night raises over 1,000 for the Lisa Barnes Memorial Fund.
A MUSIC and comedy night raised over £1,000 for Arthur Rank Hospice.
The event, which included performances from four bands and four comedy acts, was held at the Deans Club in Ely on Saturday.
Proceeds from the night went to the Lisa Barnes Memorial Fund, which was set up in 2010 by former Soham businessman Robert Barnes following the death of his wife from stomach cancer.
Mr Barnes has raised £40,000 since its launch in October 2010 and hopes to reach a target of £100,000.
Mr Barnes, of Ely’s West Fen Road, said: “The event came together because of the great organising skills of Claire Putterill and Deigh Evans, who was also one of the musicians.
“All the musicians and comedians gave their time for no charge and Deans always gives us the venue free.”
The event raised £1,005.85.
Dr Lynn Morgan, chief executive of Arthur Rank Hospice, said: “This is a fantastic effort and unbelievable that £40,000 has been raised already. We are truly grateful and this will help our patients enormously.”
