Betrand Gilbert
BERTRAND Leon-Yvon Glibert, of Lime Close, Mildenhall, died suddenly at his home on November 11. He was 81.
Born in Belgium, Mr Glibert who was known as Brett, was educated in Brussels and Portugal before schooling in England.
Trained as a photographer in Bude, Cornwall, he had also served in the Belgian Army. Later, he was a supervisor at Magnetic Devices until retirement and also managed a petrol station for around four years.
Coming from an eminent political family, he took politics quite seriously. He was proficient in the game of squash and toured Jersey, and loved swimming in which he gained the Australian life-saving medal, donated to Bude Life Saving Club. He loved his dogs and tennis too.
Mr Glibert is survived by his wife Patricia, step-daughter Patricia, and grandsons Matthew, Owen and Wesley. He also leaves a sister Loise.
His funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Newmarket, on November 24 and the Rev John Hardy officiated.
