Audrey Jacobs

FORMER local preacher, Audrey May Jacobs, of Swaffham Road, Burwell, died at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, on July 8 after a short illness. She was 84.

Born in Burwell and educated at the British School in the village, she trained as a dressmaker at Cambridge Technical College and

became a local preacher in a wide area of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

She was also an organist for more than 70 years.

A former Boys' Brigade officer at Burwell Baptist Church, she loved her garden especially the flowers, and also greatly enjoyed her goat herd.

Married to Eric for more than 64 years, she leaves children Stewart, Ann, Clive and Terry, grandchildren, Tina, Barry, Lewis, Edwin, Collette and Katherine and six great-grandchildren.

Her funeral took place at Burwell Baptist Church on July 22 and the Rev Kevin Burdett conducted the service and Linda Chandler was the organist.
